Dear 14-16 year old me:
- Invest time into your relationships.
- Nothing lasts forever.
- Stop beating yourself up.
- He’s not perfect.
- Don’t isolate yourself.
- Don’t assume anything of anyone.
- Practice your piano.
- Don’t add embarrassing movement to your first musical audition oh my go.d
- More. But also, less.
- Your window of opportunity doesn’t close as you get older, it is literally opening wider every second.
- It’s never too late.
- Don’t act “above” things, let it happen.
- It’s not cool to hate things.
- You aren’t letting people down, you’re being human.
- Ask for help.
- It’s about who you are, not what you do.
- Read a book.
- Innocence is good. So is experience, but a different kind of good.
- Don’t grow up so fast, your parents love you.
- Dream as big as you want to, nothing is impossible.
- You are not your older brother, nor are you obligated to compare to anyone else.
- Stop feeling sorry for yourself.
- Keep in touch with the people you drifted away from in middle school.
- Fix it.
- Stop being jealous of her.
- You don’t have to have your life figured out yet.
- Don’t let uncertainty stifle your progress.
- Breathe, keep your temper in check.
- Oh my god, please take a deep breath, seriously you’re on the brink of exploding every 5 minutes, you’ll be okay. But also, it’s okay to not be okay for a while, so feel free to let yourself unravel sometimes.
- Don’t shy away from creating, someone will tell you that you post too much on Instagram— well, sCREW THEM; do whatever you want.
- If you believe in it, go for it. Sing, act, take pictures, write, keep being you.
- Pet your dog more.
- Invite friends over more.
- He’s not perfect.
- You’re not perfect.
- Just go talk to that person you’ve been admiring for 2 months.
- Also, stop confessing your love to people.
- Have fun, it shouldn’t be so serious.
- Learn your worth.
- Don’t be afraid to disagree when someone starts talking crap about someone.
- Sing more in public.
- Honestly, you stress yourself out way too much, you’ll be okay.
- You don’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea.
- Actively listen, participate in what’s happening around you.
- Your worth is not based upon others’ opinions of you.
- Follow through is so important (side note: text your friends back)
- It always works out in the end, just put your best foot forward, you’ll get through it.
- You don’t have to be perfect.
- “Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.” – Kurt Vonnegut
You make it out alive and kicking, so stay strong, honey. Wipe those tears and get some rest.
Love,
Senior You
